Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company Spotlight: Ciara DiMaiolo

Joining the Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company at age 16 as the self-described “girliest of girls,” Ciara DiMaiolo immediately proved that female firefighters can excel in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

“When I joined, it was really hard to be a female in this field. I had people at my high school telling me that they didn’t think I was strong enough or good enough. I am so happy that almost six years later, I am the best version of myself as both a person and a firefighter, and that I proved all of the people who didn’t believe in me wrong,” said Ciara.

The catalyst for Ciara joining the volunteer fire service was her uncle, a volunteer with the fire company that inspired her, trained her and helped her become the best firefighter that she could be at a young age. Her uncle has since left the fire company, but the tradition remains alive within her family, as both her and her younger brother, Daniel, volunteer together at Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company.

“I love volunteering with my brother. It is nice to have another family member with me. We have similar friends now, and it makes the firehouse feel even more like home,” said Ciara.

Volunteering at the firehouse is such a vital part of Ciara’s life, and it has encouraged her to volunteer with a local EMS organization and obtain her EMT certification. Giving back to the community has not only taught her the value of helping others, but it helps her put things in perspective in her daily life.

Ciara is currently pursuing her degree in music education, and is thankful for the opportunities to gain teaching experience by teaching fire prevention tips at local elementary schools through the fire company.

Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company operates as a 100% volunteer organization, committed to providing a quick response time and the highest level of emergency services to the community. No experience is required to join, and training and gear are provided for free.
