Volunteer FAQ

What makes volunteering at Robertsville different from other fire companies?

We operate with a leaner volunteer base than our neighboring fire companies. This means that there are more hands-on training experiences for our members and more opportunities to have a seat on the fire truck when it's time to respond - an enviable situation for a volunteer firefighter for sure.

Do I need any experience to join?

No! We thoroughly train all new members and provide them with gear at no cost.

Will I get paid?

No, you will not receive compensation, but there are benefits available to all volunteers. All our volunteers receive life insurance through the fire company, in addition to free township permits and a summer recreation pass. Additionally, the satisfaction and honor of knowing that you are saving lives in your very own community.

Can high school students join?

Yes, high school students ages 16 and older can join the junior program and earn community service hours.

What if I want to pursue additional certifications beyond Firefighter 1?

Our volunteers can pursue additional certifications at the Monmouth County Fire Academy for free. Our members have gone on to obtain Firefighter 2, Fire Officer, Pump Operator, Hazmat and more certifications through the Fire Academy.

How much time do I need to volunteer?

As much time as you would like! We prefer that all of our volunteers attend the monthly training drills, but we recognize that you may have other commitments, such as a full-time job or school. Our fire company and the community are appreciative of any amount of time that you are willing to donate.

What if I want to give back to the community, but don’t want to fight fires?

You don’t have to! We offer an administrative volunteer role, where volunteers can assist with fundraising, social media, representing the fire company at community events and more.
